No arrests in Saturday shooting

Meeks not sure if charges will be filed

GREENVILLE — The Saturday night shooting death of a Royse City man is still under investigation, although it remains to be seen whether any arrests will be made in the case.

Estanislado Theodo Hernandez, 37, was shot during a birthday party at a residence on County Road 2737.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks said no one had been arrested in connection with the incident as of Tuesday afternoon.

“I’m not for sure if we’re going to charge anybody, but we’re still investigating right now.”

Hernandez’s death was classified as a homicide, and the sheriff’s office initially reported he had received multiple gunshot wounds before being taken by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where he died.

But Jim McDonald, Hernandez’s stepfather, claimed there was only one gunshot and that the death “was just a tragic accident” as the result of an altercation “which got out of hand.”

The death was the third homicide reported in Hunt County this year.
