One killed in Sunday night crash

Boy, 12, dies in rollover accident on I-30

GREENVILLE — A Sunday night accident on Interstate 30 resulted in the death of a boy from west Texas.

Joshua Shipman, 12, of Desdemona, was killed when he was ejected from the Chrysler van his mother was driving, after she swerved to avoid a chair which was in the middle of the highway.

According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Kyle Bradford, Amanda Shipman was driving westbound on the interstate at around 5:25 p.m. Sunday.

“There was a bar stool or a chair or something like that in the right lane,” Bradford said. “She swerved to miss it and entered the center median of the highway.” Bradford said the van overturned several times, and Joshua Shipman was thrown into the eastbound lanes of the interstate, where he was hit by another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

Amanda Shipman and the other passengers inside the van were transported to the Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Their conditions were not immediately released.
