Two more days of winter this week

GREENVILLE — Tuesday was cold. Thursday will be much colder.

While today’s weather is expected to be more seasonable, another arctic blast is expected to descend upon Hunt County and North Texas early Thursday morning.

While there is no precipitation, frozen or otherwise, in the National Weather Service forecast, the temperatures are expected to plunge well below freezing, before warming up once more for the weekend.

Greenville recorded an official high temperature of 45 degrees Tuesday, with winds gusting out of the north at up to 30 mph.

Today’s high is expected to climb to near 54 under sunny skies, with calm winds becoming north northeast around 5 mph in the afternoon.

The forecast calls for clouds to roll in tonight, with a low around 28 and north northeast winds gusting as high as 30 mph after midnight.

The winds are expected to continue gusting all day Thursday, with a high around 31 degrees and a low overnight of 17.

Not only will it be frigid, but the high winds may also increase the danger of grass and wild fires, due to the continued drought conditions.

The Texas A&M Forest Service listed Hunt County under a “moderate” risk of fire Tuesday, while counties to the north and east were listed under a “high” fire danger.

The county is not currently under a ban on outdoor burning, but residents are being asked to use extra precautions if conducting a controlled burn during the high winds.

The forecast for Friday is calling for a high near 37, with the winds calming down and shifting to the southwest during the afternoon.

High temperatures are expected to reach back into the 50s Saturday and the 60s on Sunday.
