Two wounded, three people arrested following shooting on Broadview Street in Greenville

GREENVILLE — The Greenville Police Department is reporting two people were shot and three people were arrested following a shooting and chase earlier today.

The statement just released by the police department:

At 11:58 a.m., today, January 15, 2014, dispatchers with Greenville Police Department received a call that there had been a shooting at 2503 Broadview in Greenville.  Upon arrival, officers were told a single victim had been taken by private vehicle to the Emergency Room at Hunt Regional Hospital on Joe Ramsey Boulevard with a wound to his arm.

Witnesses told police two men, one white and one black, had entered the residence and the black male shot the victim with an unknown weapon. The two men then fled the scene in a blue extended-cab Dodge truck. Officers expanded the search for the alleged perpetrators, broadcasting descriptions to GPD officers, DPS and surrounding jurisdictions.

While searching for suspects near the Hunt/Hopkins County line, Officer Robert Pemberton learned deputies with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department had stopped the vehicle in question after a short pursuit.

At least one occupant of the truck ran from the vehicle. Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies and Texas Department of Public Safety troopers performed a ground search of the area and were able to locate the suspect and take him into custody. All three occupants of the vehicle are currently in custody. Charges will be determined after investigators have collected all necessary information.

A second alleged victim of the shooting presented at Hunt Regional Hospital’s ER with a gunshot wound to the leg at approximately 2:30 p.m., also having been delivered by private car.

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation. Identification of both the victims and suspects is currently unavailable.

“We are grateful to the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety for their assistance with this investigation,” said Greenville Chief of Police, Daniel Busken.

As a result of the investigation into the shooting, a 28-year-old white female was arrested at 2503 Broadview for possession of a controlled substance.
