Ja-Lu Pool still has future in Greenville

GREENVILLE — Whether or not a proposed water park splashes down in Greenville next summer, the local municipal swimming pool is expected to be open for business.

Interim City Manager/Director of Public Works Massoud Ebrahim said the Ja-Lu Pool is still included in next year’s municipal budget.

“Everything is planned as it is for the whole Parks Department,” Ebrahim said. “The swimming pool and everything is budgeted.”

A Splash Kingdom water park had been announced as part of the Greenville Towne Center development along the Interstate 30 service road. The initial announcements had indicated developers were planning on opening the facility in time for the 2014 season. Although no additional details have been released about the project for some time, negotiations between the City of Greenville and representatives from both the water park and the Towne Center development were reported to be ongoing as of earlier this month.

“We are not speculating on anything right now,” Ebrahim said, adding he also has not heard any recent updates about the water park. “We are budgeting to have the swimming pool open as is and we are not speculating on anything else.”

The pool is open Tuesdays through Sundays, from 1 until 7 p.m. daily, through August 11.

Ebrahim has indicated he intends to present the City Council with a proposed budget at the July 23 regular session.
