Council formally names Ebrahim as city manager

GREENVILLE — Massoud Ebrahim will be filling two jobs for the City of Greenville for the foreseeable future.

The City Council decided late Tuesday night to take the “interim” off of the title and voted to formally name Ebrahim as the new City Manager.

City of Greenville spokesperson Autumn Barton said Wednesday that Ebrahim will also continue to serve the city as Director of Public Works.

“At the present time, yes,” Barton said, adding that a decision will be made after the start of the upcoming fiscal as to whether to hire someone to fill Ebrahim’s former position.

“This will allow us to get the year started without any hiccups,” Barton said.

Tuesday night’s vote was 5-2, with Dan Perkins and Velma Del Bosque-Hobdy voting against, and was the only action taken by the Council following a lengthy executive session.

Ebrahim was appointed as Interim City Manager in May, in the wake of the Council terminating former city manager Steven Alexander’s contract.

Ebrahim had been making $110,920 as Director of Public Works and will receive $164,837 — Alexander’s annual salary — while working in both positions.

Ebrahim joined the City of Greenville as the Director of Public Works in December 1990. Ebrahim holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Texas Tech University. He holds a Registered Professional Engineering license in Texas and a Class A General Engineering Contracting License in California. As Director of Public Works, Ebrahim is responsible for the areas of Public Works, Engineering, Streets, and Water and Sewer Utilities. Before coming to Greenville, Ebrahim was the City Engineer for the City of Temple, Texas. He also worked in the private sector for 12 years in Texas as a consultant Civil Engineer and Municipal Engineer.
