Huge fire destroys Lone Oak business

GREENVILLE — Downtown Lone Oak was supposed to have a new business open today, a tire shop at 301 Katy Street.

But a massive fire Sunday afternoon destroyed the structure, according to Hunt County Fire Marshal Richard Hill.

“They were supposed to deliver 300 tires there this morning,” Hill said.

Fire departments from across the county battled the five-alarm blaze, which was first reported at around 2 p.m. Sunday.

“At this time, there is no cause, based on talking to the witnesses and looking at the scene yesterday,” said David Alexander with the Fire Marshal’s office. “It is a total destruction.”

Hill and Alexander intend to return to the site later today, to conduct a follow-up inspection.

“There were no appliances plugged in, there were no air conditioners plugged in,” Alexander said. “The owners tell us there were no electrical problems whatsoever.”

Alexander said that as of this morning, there was no reason to believe the origin of the fire was criminal in nature.
