Food drive Friday to benefit local ministry

GREENVILLE — Donations will be taken this week for a food drive to benefit a local ministry assisting the less fortunate in the area.

Odyssey Hospice is sponsoring the drive, scheduled for noon until 6 p.m. Friday at the parking lot of Coker-Mathews Funeral Home, 5100 Interstate 30 Frontage Road in Greenville.

All donations of non-perishable food items will be provided to Hands of Compassion in Greenville. Organizers are asking that any expiration dates on the donations be for at least six months or more in the future.

Texas Snow will be on hand and will provide a free snow cone for donations.

Hands of Compassion is a ministry designed to impact the physical and spiritual needs of people in Greenville and Hunt County. For more than 20 years volunteers from various Greenville churches have given time, talent, money and other resources to help feed and clothe the hungry.

Each Wednesday from 9-11 a.m. people in need can receive food and clothing at no cost and take part in a special worship service. Many members at Grace Community Church are actively involved in the ministry of Hands of Compassion. From administration to unloading trucks, people from Grace join with others to see the gospel lived out by helping the needy with daily necessities.

Those wanting additional information about Hands of Compassion can contact Newman Peters at 903-408-9903. You can find Hands of Compassion on Pickett Street behind First Baptist Church in downtown Greenville.
