A jury trial is scheduled to begin this week in connection with a 2011 homicide in Greenville.
Jury selection in the trial of Tyrone Leorone McCurdy has been scheduled Tuesday in the 196th District Court.
The Hunt County Courthouse is closed Monday for the Veterans Day holiday.
McCurdy and Bernard Dale Kelly Jr. both of Greenville, have each pleaded not guilty to one count of murder in connection with the death of Treybbian Leekey Nelson of Greenville.
Kelly currently has trial scheduled in December.
Officers with the Greenville Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 1000 block of Edgar Street on the afternoon of Feb. 8, 2011 where they found Nelson had been shot. Nelson was transported by air ambulance to Parkland Hospital where he underwent surgery and later died as the result of his injuries.
The indictments allege McCurdy, Kelly and an unnamed juvenile “knowingly and intentionally” caused Nelson’s death by shooting him with a firearm, or in the alternative, caused Nelson’s death by shooting him or in his direction while having the intent to commit aggravated assault.
Murder is a first degree felony, punishable upon conviction by a maximum sentence of from five to 99 years to life in prison.
