Hunt County jail passes inspection

GREENVILLE — The Hunt County Jail has again passed inspection by state officials.

In a statement issued Thursday evening, Sheriff Randy Meeks said the Hunt County Detention Center in Greenville has  passed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards inspection for seven years in a row.

“Of the 254 counties in Texas, 47 jails have passed the jail inspection for five consecutive years, so passing seven years in a row is a very big accomplishment and one that Hunt County and its citizens should be proud of,” Meeks said.

At least once each fiscal year, the state agency performs an inspection, whether announced or unannounced, and inquires into security, control, conditions and compliance with the established minimum standards. The commission staff has access to all parts of each facility; the books, records, data, documents and accounts pertaining to each facility and to the inmates confined there.

Texas Commission on Jail Standards Executive Director Brandon S. Wood issued a Certificate of Compliance and a letter of acknowledgement that “demonstrates your outstanding leadership and the diligent work of your staff in complying with minimum standards. In addition, this achievement is a direct result of your office’s commitment to excellence and is an example of dedication and professionalism in maintaining a safe, secure and sanitary facility.”

“So again, congratulations to all the employees of the Hunt County Detention Center on a job well done,” Meeks said.
