Republicans make flurry of filings Friday

Flynn, Horn, Shelton, McNabb seek GOP nominations

GREENVILLE — Several Republican candidates made their campaigns official Friday, filing for the March 2014 GOP primary.

State Rep. Dan Flynn (R-Van) filed Friday with the Republican Party of Texas, seeking the party’s nomination as he runs for re-election to House District 2, which includes Hunt, Hopkins and Van Zandt counties. Flynn is the first candidate to have filed for the post. Flynn has served for six terms.

Three candidates filed with the Hunt County Republican Party Friday. John Horn is seeking re-election as Hunt County Judge, Delores Shelton has filed for re-election as Hunt County Treasurer, and David H. McNabb Jr. filed for re-election as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4.

Horn is currently facing Jerry Minter in the race for the GOP nominaton for county judge, while McNabb is facing Elizabeth Stennett Osborne in seeking the party’s nod in next year’s primary.

Tod McMahan filed Thursday for the Republican Party nomination in the contest for Hunt County Commissioner Precinct 2.

Filing for the March 4, 2014 Republican and Democratic Party primaries continues through Dec. 9.

Candidates seeking an office in a particular county file with their respective county Democratic or Republican Party offices. Candidates whose jurisdiction covers multiple counties file with the state party offices.

Next year, Hunt County voters will be casting ballots for congress, state senate, state representative, county judge, 196th district court, district clerk, county court at law No. 1, county clerk, county commissioners in precincts 2 and 4, justices of the peace and constables.
