Latest county jobless numbers to be released

GREENVILLE — A report to be issued this week will reveal whether the recent surge in hiring in Hunt County continued into the Christmas season.

The Texas Workforce Commission’s Labor Market and Career Information Department is scheduled Friday to release statistics and job-related data for the month of December. The data is produced in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Labor.

The last report, issued in December, revealed more people were on the job in Hunt County in November November than during any other November in the county’s history.

The county had added more than 260 jobs between October and November and almost 900 jobs in the previous 12 months.

The local unemployment rate had been dropping steadily for five straight months and the jobless numbers were at their lowest for November in at least five years.

Hunt County was listed with a 5.8 percent unemployment rate in November, down from 6 percent unemployment in October and also below the 6.2 percent unemployment rate recorded during November 2012.

The Texas Workforce Commission is scheduled to release the January statistics on March 7, followed the February jobless numbers on March 28.
