Council approves resource officers funding

GREENVILLE — Two Greenville Police Department officers will remain on campuses in the Greenville Independent School District this year.

The Greenville City Council voted Tuesday to approve an interlocal agreement with the Greenville ISD, agreeing to pay the city’s share of the salaries of the School Resource Officers.

Under the agreement the city and the school district each pay a little more than $87,000, one-half of the salaries and benefits for the two officers.

Currently, Greenville Police Department Officers Richard Calender and James Hamilton serve in that capacity.

The officers are also involved in implementing the police department’s Summer of Safety programs, which this year included Skating Friday, Fishing Friday, Swimming Friday, Movie Friday, the Kids Camp and the Teen Police Academy.
