Get ready for the cold weather

GREENVILLE — The latest forecast from the National Weather Service includes no mention of snow for our area, but it will definitely feel like winter by Sunday night.

The gusting winds and lower humidities associated with the passage of the cold front is also expected to increase the fire danger in the area.

There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon, on Sunday with a high near 71. Winds will start out of the south around 15 mph then turn northwest in the afternoon with gusts as high as 25 mph.

It is expected to be mostly cloudy tomorrow night with a low around 28 and with wind gusts as high as 30 mph.

Monday is forecast to be partly sunny, with a high near 42 and wind gusts as high as 25 mph.

Monday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 20 degrees.

The National Weather Service is also urging residents and businesses with sprinkler systems to take precautions to avoid the water causing havoc on area roadways:

Running sprinkler systems and freezing temperatures can be extremely hazardous, and even deadly. Now is a good time to make sure your sprinklers are off or that they have a working freezing sensor. Turning sprinklers off protects your system and it prevents deadly ice patches from forming on roadways that may have otherwise been dry. Use extra caution when driving at night and in the morning hours Monday and Tuesday.
