City Christmas tree to be decorated today

GREENVILLE — The tall, green Balsam fir which currently sits in front of the City of Greenville Police and Courts facility is expected to look a lot more like a Christmas tree by this afternoon.

Crews with the Parks and Recreation Department plan to add lights and decorations to the tree this morning, in preparation for next week’s tree lighting event. The tree arrived November 16 and was put in place in front of the building at 3000 Lee Street on Nov. 19.

The 22nd Annual City of Greenville Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, December 6 and will include the mayor’s holiday welcome, Christmas carolers from a local elementary school and a visit from Santa Claus. The tree will remain lit each night through the New Year’s holiday.

Those arriving early for the event, at 5:30 p.m., will have a chance to decorate Christmas ornaments and to take a ride on a horse-drawn carriage. The Christmas Tree Lighting countdown begins at 6:30 p.m.
