Caddo Mills man seeks custody of seized dogs

A hearing is scheduled this afternoon to determine who will receive custody of five dogs seized last week from a home near Caddo Mills.

The man who owns the residence on Brookview Circle, Richard McGee, has disputed claims he mistreated the dogs and said he intends to fight for custody of the animals.

The hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the office of Hunt County Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1, Place 1 Sheila Linden, 2801 Stuart Street in Greenville.

The SPCA of Texas, Hunt County Constable Precinct 1 Terry Jones, deputies with the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and investigator Mike Pierce with the Hunt County Attorney’s Office seized five dogs and two kittens from the home on June 21, the same location where authorities removed dozens of animals last September. As was the case last fall, the animals seized were allegedly living inside the home.

Jones obtained a warrant for the residence from 196th District Judge Steve Tittle, following several complaints to the SPCA of Texas.

McGee said the complaints come from his neighbor, with whom he has had a series of disputes.

If the SPCA of Texas is awarded custody of the animals, they would be individually evaluated for potential adoption or placement on a case by case basis.
