Prison sentence issued in area burglaries

GREENVILLE — A Hunt County man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including two home burglaries.

Shane Thomas Leeth, 25, of Celeste, entered pleas of guilty Wednesday to two counts of burglary of a habitation and one count each of unlawful use of criminal instrument and theft of property of the value of between $1,500 and $20,000.

Leeth was alleged to have acted alongside David Scott Rozell of Greenville in breaking into homes on January 31 and February 15; of the illegal use of bolt cutters, a reciprocating saw and a claw hammer on February 15 and of stealing metal tubing on June 23, 2012.

Under a plea bargain arrangement, Leeth was sentenced to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on the burglary and criminal instrument charges and two years in a state jail on the felony theft count.

Rozell currently has trials pending on the charges.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks credited the actions of an alert neighbor for helping capture Leeth and Rozell, after they allegedly attempted to break into a residence on FM 118 near Jacobia on February 15, giving deputies a detailed description of the vehicle in which they were riding.

Both suspects were arrested after a traffic stop on the vehicle on Wolfe City Drive in Greenville. Meeks said a number of stolen items as well as a stolen 2012 Kawasaki Motorcycle were recovered.
