Two ceremonies today in recognition of Child Abuse Awareness Month

GREENVILLE — Two ceremonies are scheduled outside of the Hunt County Courthouse today, both in an effort to help raise awareness of the impact of child abuse in Hunt County.

The Hunt County Children’s Advocacy Center and the Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Texas intend to “plant” a pinwheel garden in front of the courthouse while Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Hunt County will conduct the annual Light of Hope observance.

The pinwheel ceremony, with each pinwheel representing a victim of child abuse in the county served by the Advocacy Center in the past year, is scheduled at the courthouse starting at 4 p.m. today.

The Light of Hope event, in which each candle represents one person’s wish to help eliminate the darkness of child abuse, will be conducted at the courthouse starting at 5:30 p.m. today.

Both events are being held in observance of April as National Child Abuse Awareness Month.
