Supporters of the Greenville Independent School District are hoping to create a buzz about a fundraising event scheduled next week.
Many school children have struggled over the proper placement of letters in words ranging from abscission to zucchini, by participating in school spelling bees.
Now it is the grown up’s turn.
The Greenville Educational Enrichment Foundation has scheduled an Adult Spelling Bee, Shrimp Boil and Silent Auction for 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 12 in the Greenville High School cafeteria.
The shrimp and sides will be provided by L-3, while additional menu options will be prepared and served by Greenville High School Culinary Arts students.
Tickets are $15 per person in advance or $20 at the door. A team of three entry fee is $150. Additional sponsorships range from $100 to $500.
Participants in the bee, who fear their spelling skills aren’t quite as sharp as they used to be, can purchase “enhancers” prior to the event, which would allow contestants to get a second shot at spelling a word, to pass on a word, to pass a tricky word to a different team or a combination of all three.
Those wanting additional information, or who may want to purchase tickets, can contact Elaine Yznaga at firstname.lastname@example.org.
