Trash Off Saturday

GREENVILLE — With a little luck and some hard work, Greenville should be little less trashy one week from today.

Keep Greenville Beautiful is hosting the local observance of the Great Texas Trash-Off on the morning of April 6. The event is cosponsored by Progressive Waste Solutions, Wings To Go and the City of Greenville.

Volunteers are being asked to register at 7:30 a.m. at Westview United Methodist Church, 6407 Sayle Street. Keep Greenville Beautiful will provide trash bags, orange vests and road assignments, while those volunteering are encouraged to bring work gloves, sunscreen and water to drink. Free Trash-Off T-shirts will be presented to the first 50 volunteers who register.

A free lunch will be provided by Keep Greenville Beautiful, starting at 11:30 a.m., for all of the registered volunteers back at the check-in station. Recycled trophies will be presented for the Strangest Find; Oldest and Youngest Picker-uppers; Largest Civic, Church, School, and Business Groups; most unusual find and more.

“I am going to try to focus on volunteering in the community and getting people to get groups together,” said Keep Greenville Beautiful’s Jennifer Williams-Pittsinger. “We have never had a business group participate, and I am trying to encourage it.”
