GREENVILLE — A Sulphur Springs man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges alleging the sexual abuse of a child.

David Wayne Mayer, 32, pleaded guilty during a hearing Monday in the 354th District Court to one count of aggravated sexual assault of a Child, an indictment with 10 counts of indecency with a child by exposure and a third indictment  with 10 counts of possession of child pornography, according to Hunt County District Attorney Noble D. Walker Jr.

“Pursuant to a plea agreement, he was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the sexual assault, the 20 year maximum for each indecency count, and the 20 year maximum for each child pornography count, with all cases to run concurrently,” Walker said.

A trial on all counts had been scheduled for Feb. 24.

“The family of the victim agreed to this plea and as a result not only will the victim not be forced to testify, but will have the certainty of a conviction with no appeal since the defendant waived any right to appeal,” Walker said. “We were prepared to try this case and are very pleased this defendant will serve significant time in the penitentiary.”
