Veterans Day events starting today

GREENVILLE — An assembly, a parade, an all day and night concert and a reading of the names of the fallen are among the activities scheduled in Hunt County, starting today, in honor of the upcoming Veterans Day holiday.

— The Greenville ISD Veterans Day ceremony is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Greenville High School gym.

— A reception is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday in the Ford High School band hall in Quinlan, with a ceremony starting in the auditorium at 10 a.m. Friday. A ceremony is scheduled at 10:15 a.m. Friday in the Thompson Middle School gymnasium, with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the band hall. There will also be a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Cannon Elementary School.

— The annual Hunt County observance of Veterans Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at the Hunt County Courthouse.

— The American Red Cross has scheduled the parade to start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Bois d’ Arc and Lee Street.

The event is being hailed as way to celebrate heroes past and present who bravely protected America’s freedoms.

— Clancy’s Saloon & Stage, at the Bar-Double Horseshoe Ranch in Campbell will present the Wounded Heroes Benefit Concert, starting at 11 a.m. Saturday to benefit the Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation. A gate fee is not being charged, but organizers are asking visitors to make a donation to Texas Wounded Warrior Foundation. — A Reading of the Fallen is scheduled from 2 until 4 p.m. Sunday at Park Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation, 3500 Park Street in Greenville. There will be a reading of 1,750 names of fallen veterans to correspond with an event happening simultaneously throughout the nation.
