Greenville graduate singing on television show next week

By BRAD KELLAR

GREENVILLE C. J. Fontenot knows exactly which show she will be watching on television starting Monday of next week.

Her son, Steven, is scheduled to appear on the latest version of singing competition programs, “Clash of the Choirs”, on NBC.

Fontenot said Steven will be part of an Oklahoma-based choir competing on the show against four other choirs from across the country.

“My son is currently attending Oklahoma City University,” Fontenot said.

The concept of the program features five choirs from five states. Oklahoma’s choir is being directed by Ada native Blake Shelton. Each musician chooses choir members from their own state.

“Steven went to audition, and out of 500 they only took 20 for the choir,” Fontenot said.

The choirs will appear in live broadcasts each night between Monday and Thursday of next week, then comes the elimination part.

“The people at home then vote them off or on,” Fontenot said, adding Steven graduated from Greenville High School.

“He’s from Greenville and he’s been here since the fifth grade,” Fontenot said. Steven is currently in his third year at the university.

“He’s really popular,” Fontenot said. “He was in the choir all through high school.”
