Body of another military hero to arrive at airport

The body of yet another American hero, killed while serving in the line of duty overseas, is scheduled to arrive in Greenville today.

United States Army Spc. Joseph Michael Lewis of Terrell died Nov. 17 in Afghanistan. Lewis will return to Texas at the Greenville Municipal Airport at 11:20 a.m. today. A motorcade is scheduled to take Lewis to the Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home in Terrell, where visitation is scheduled from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday.

The route will be the same as has been used in previous motorcades, leaving from the terminal building at the airport and proceeding on Majors Road to Farm-To-Market 2101, then turn right and proceed to Farm-To-Market 1570/Jack Finney Boulevard, then turn left and continue on FM 1570 to State Highway 34 South into Terrell.

The family has requested that those who desire to may line the roadway and pay their respects to Lewis by carrying flags and wearing red, white and blue.

Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Saturday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Terrell.

Lewis completed basic training at Ft. Knox in Kentucky in 2005. He was also a Cavalry Scout to Camp Casey in Korea for as well as to Ft. Lewis in Washington before being deployed to Afghanistan. Lewis was assigned to the 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Teresa Lewis of Terrell; his infant daughter, Abiageal Lewis of Terrell; parents, Mike and Pam Lewis of Terrell; sister, Amanda Lewis Rodriguez and husband, Josh, of Ft. Worth; nephews Jackson Thomas and Benjamin Rodriguez; niece, Natalie Thomas; grandparents Carl and Betty Baker of Terrell and Barbara Hall of Terrell.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Abiageal Lewis Trust Fund in care of American National Bank, P.O. Box 40, Terrell, 75160.
