By CHAD BLACKSHEAR

GREENVILLE The faculty and staff at Greenville High School, as well as members of the community, have spent the past week mourning the death of Eric Johnson, an assistant principal at the campus.

Johnson died unexpectedly the night of Nov. 13.

Johnson was hired by the district in July 2007 and served as an assistant principal at Greenville Middle School until this fall, when he was transferred to the high school campus.

Prior to his employment with the Greenville Independent School District, he had a total of 14 years experience with the Garland and Lancaster ISDs.

Johnson received his masters degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2002 and his bachelors degree from Oklahoma State University in 1995.

“Eric is going to be missed,” said Brad Press, spokesman for Greenville ISD. “He brought a lot of things to the high school.”

During Tuesday night’s regular meeting of the Greenville ISD Board of Trustees, Trustee Randy Wineinger mentioned Johnson’s contributions to the district and emotional support by district personnel towards his family during the invocation.

Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas. A viewing was held last night at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas.
