Woman dies from fall off mattress in truck bed

A 55-year-old Wills Point woman died Sunday night after falling off a mattress that was being transported in the bed of a pickup truck in the Waco Bay area in southern Hunt County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Marlene Franklin was lying on the mattress, holding it down, when the truck negotiated a curve in the 700 block of Baywood Drive, just east of County Road 3707 at 6:55 p.m.

The force of the curve reportedly dislodged the mattress and Franklin – who fell off the driver’s side of the truck and landed on her head.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
