Services set for soldier killed in Afghanistan

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

Funeral services are scheduled Friday for United States Army Staff Sgt. Shawn Henry McNabb of Poetry, who was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.

A plane bearing McNabb’s body is expected to be flown into Majors Field Municipal Airport in Greenville sometime Wednesday. A firm schedule had not been set as of press time Monday.

Once the plane does arrive, a motorcade is scheduled to leave from the terminal building and proceed on Majors Road to Farm-To-Market 2101, then turn right and proceed to Farm-To-Market 1570/Jack Finney Boulevard, then turn left and continue on FM 1570 to State Highway 34 South into Terrell.

A funeral service with full military honors is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Terrell with interment to follow at D/FW National Cemetery in Dallas. The family will receive friends from 4 until 9 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Clayton Brothers Funeral Home in Terrell.

McNabb, 24 was among 14 Americans killed in helicopter crashes Sunday. McNabb joined the Army after graduating from Terrell High School in 2003. He was stationed at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah, Ga. and served in the 160th Special Operations Air Regiment (SOAR) Third Battalion as an Airborne Combat Flight Medic.

McNabb’s father, David McNabb, of Poetry, is a retired driver/engineer with the Greenville Fire Department. The Greenville Fire and Police Departments are planning to post honor guards upon the arrival at the airport, and the McNabb family is asking that Hunt County residents to line the streets of the motorcade route into Terrell, carrying flags and wearing red, white and blue.

Additional details will be posted on the Herald-Banner Web site (www.heraldbanner.com) as they become available.
