GISD campus briefly locked down

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

GREENVILLE A Greenville Independent School campus was locked down briefly Wednesday, amid fears of a juvenile with a gun in the area.

Greenville Middle School, 3611 Texas Street, was under lockdown during the afternoon, according to district spokesperson Brad Press.

“There was a brief lockdown at the school for a short period,” Press said. The lockdown was to allow campus personnel to check on a report.

“It turned out to be false.” Press did not elaborate as to the nature of the report.

Callers to the Herald-Banner Wednesday said there were reports of a former student riding a bicycle near the campus, who was believed to be carrying a weapon. Police officials encountered the juvenile, the callers said, and found the individual was carrying a BB gun.
