Bidding ends in latest city online auction

The City of Greenville has found selling off the old stuff it no longer needs to be a profitable enterprise.
The city received more than $56,000 in bids during an online auction which ended Tuesday, the third time this year the city placed items of merchandise for sale online through www.auctioneerexpress.com.
More than three dozen items were up for bid this time around, including 15 pickup trucks or vans, five sedans and an assortment of trailers and equipment. Also for sale was a 16-foot pontoon boat with engine.
The auction gained $56,466.50 in bids, ranging from $31 for a pickup bed utility rack to $7,751 for a skid steer loader. The pontoon boat went for $1,650.
Bidding in August on surplus City of Greenville vehicles and equipment racked up more than $28,000 in sales, while more than $135,000 in bids were submitted during an April Internet auction.
The city received a total of more than $219,000 in bids from the three auctions combined.
