GCS faces Avalon

By DAVID CLAYBOURN
Herald-Banner Staff

Greenville Christian School’s Eagles should feel pretty much at home today even though they’re playing a road game at Avalon.

The six-man football contest is set for 2 p.m. kickoff.

GCS usually plays once or twice per season at Eagles Stadium in Avalon, which is a good halfway point for GCS and many of its playoff opponents. GCS coach Larry Uland said the Eagles have played more at Avalon than any other place outside of their home field.

GCS will carry a 4-1 record and a No. 1 state ranking (sixmanfootball.com) into the contest against a 2-2 Avalon team which will have the advantage over GCS in depth.

“They have about 30 kids suited out,” said Uland. “They have some athletes.”

Avalon should be well-rested after enjoying a bye last weekend.

The other Eagles lost their last outing to Leverett’s Chapel, 20-16. Avalon has also lost 50-0 to Calvert and has beaten Grand Prairie Advantage, 62-13, and Waxahachie Advantage, 52-6.

GCS won its last outing, 52-0 last weekend over Happy Hill. Uland said he was very proud of an Eagle defense that allowed only one first down.

Five of Jake quarterback Schumann’s passes last week went for touchdowns in that game.
