Suspect could plead guilty to armed robberies

By BRAD KELLAR

A Garland man, one of three people indicted in connection with a string of reported armed robberies in Hunt and Hopkins counties earlier this year, could enter a guilty plea today.

Michael Brandon Davis, 21, previously entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon during his arraignment in July on the charges. He is scheduled to enter another plea to at least one of the indictments during a hearing scheduled this morning in the 196th District Court.

Davis, along with Brandon Lee Light, 20, of Campbell and Scott Christian Rich, 21, of Garland — were also suspects in connection with an armed robbery of a Hopkins County business.

The three were each indicted by the Hunt County grand jury in June involving two Jan. 19 robberies in Greenville. All three remain in custody at the Hunt County Jail.

The first robbery occurred at the Nat 24 convenience store at 3200 Joe Ramsey Boulevard. Three white males entered the store, with one of the suspects carrying a long gun with a scope. The suspects ordered the two clerks to the floor before stealing the store’s lottery machine. One of the clerks was sprayed with pepper spray.

The second incident occurred about 30 minutes later at the On The Run store at the intersection of Wesley Street and Interstate 30. The store clerk was in the back room when she heard noises. She observed two males taking the cash registers. The store’s video surveillance cameras revealed one of the three suspects carried a long gun with a scope.

The Hopkins County incident occurred at a convenience store two days later. An armed robbery was reported on the night of Jan. 21 at the E-Z Mart Store on League Street in Sulphur Springs. Three men, reportedly armed with a rifle, were said to have robbed the store.
