Applications sought for Citizens Police Academy

GREENVILLE —
The Greenville Police Department is now accepting applications for the next class Citizens Police Academy.
Applications will be taken through Sept. 1 for the class which is scheduled to start Sept. 15.
The Citizens Police Academy shows citizens how the Greenville Police Department operates through 10 Monday night classes. The classes cover topics in Communications/911, Patrol Operations, Crime Prevention, Narcotics, Tactical Unit, K-9, DWI Procedures, Family Violence, and Criminal Investigation/Crime Scene. Each student will also get to "Ride Along" with an Officer. The classes consist of lectures, demonstrations, tours, and hands-on participation.
The classes are free of charge and open to anyone who lives or works in Greenville and is at least 21 years of age. However, proof of valid automobile insurance and medical insurance is required to attend.
Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy can join other past graduates in the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, which continues to work with the Greenville Police Department through volunteering, special projects, and events.
Applications can be picked up at the Greenville Police Department, 3000 Lee Street, or at the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street.
