Resurfacing project begins on Interstate 30

By BRAD KELLAR

Motorists heading back to work Monday after the long holiday weekend may be navigating around a new resurfacing effort getting underway along Interstate 30.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced officials with the agency recently awarded a $7.3 million contract to RK Hall Construction for the project, which is scheduled to stretch from the Rockwall County line to 1.51 miles west of State Highway 34/Wesley Street.

Under the contract, crews with RK Hall are scheduled to mill the existing main lanes, overlay with hot mix, one course surface treatment and a permeable friction course. TxDOT officials said some guardrail and delineator work will also be required.

RK Hall has been granted 110 working days to complete the project and is expected to start setting barricades and signs and begin work Monday, with completion expected in November, according to TxDOT Area Engineer Craig Miser.

“The construction along Interstate 30 will require temporary lane and ramp closures throughout the project limits, both in the eastbound and westbound directions,” Miser said. “Lane and ramp closures are planned during daylight hours only, but there is the potential for some night lane closures. The public is requested to exercise caution while traveling in this area and to observe signs and flaggers."

Those wanting additional information on the project can contact the TxDOT office in Greenville by calling 903-455-2363.
