Flu numbers rise, but not locally

While the number of cases of the H1N1 flu continue to increase across Texas, the flu has not yet been reported in Hunt County.

Approximately 4,000 cases have now been reported in almost half of the counties in Texas, although none of the state’s 17 deaths have been attributed to the virus anywhere in North Texas.

The latest update from the Texas Department of State Health Services, issued late Wednesday, revealed Hunt County had none of the 3,992 cases of H1N1 flu which have been reported from 112 out of 254 Texas counties so far.

Kaufman County reported eight confirmed cases Wednesday, three more than at the same time one week earlier.

Among other nearby counties, Hopkins County was listed with two “probable” cases of the virus, but no confirmed cases, as of Wednesday, Collin County had reported four probable and 49 confirmed cases Wednesday, Dallas County reported nine probable and 272 confirmed cases, Lamar County had one confirmed case and Rockwall County had two confirmed cases as of Wednesday.

The next update from the state agency is scheduled for next Wednesday, July 8.
