GREENVILLE —
It’s that shutterbug time of the year.
The Second Annual Hunt County Amateur Photography Contest begins July 7 and runs through Aug. 26. Co-sponsored by the Herald-Banner and the W. Walworth Harrison Public Library, the contest is open to local amateur photographers.
Winning photographs in the adult and junior divisions will be published in the Herald-Banner every Monday and Tuesday beginning July 7. The adult division is for ages 16 and up, and the junior division is for ages 15 and under. Entry forms will be available at the Herald-Banner and at the library.
Submissions will be accepted from June 23 through Aug. 18 at the Herald-Banner, 2305 King, Greenville, 75401. Photographs may be mailed to (P.O. Box 6000, Greenville 75403) or dropped off at the Herald-Banner during regular business hours, which are from 8 a.m. — 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
There is no limit on the number of entries per person. Entries can either be made all at the same time or throughout the duration of the contest. Photos will be judged each week, regardless of whether they didn’t win the previous week. Honorable mention photographs will be published in the Herald-Banner at a later date.
The published photographs will be displayed at the library during the month of September, and residents may then cast votes for their favorite pictures during the People’s Choice Award during Sept. 2 — 19. Only one vote per person is allowed.
Winners will be announced on Sept. 22, and prizes will be awarded in both divisions. Pictures will remain on display through Sept. 30, and the winning pictures may be picked up at the library.
Black and white or color photos, no smaller than four by six inches and no larger than eight by 10 inches, are eligible. Pictures winning first, second, third place or earning honorable mention in the 2007 contest are not eligible.
The name and phone number of the photographer must be printed on the back of each photo, and an entry form needs to accompany each picture. Unpublished pictures will be kept on file and may be picked up at the Herald-Banner beginning Sept. 2. No photographs with a self-addressed envelope will be returned.
