Wildflower tour, dedication set at Clymer Meadow

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

CELESTE Officials with the Nature Conservancy of Texas are planning to spend this spring day checking out the wildflowers and accepting another site eligible for preservation.

The public is invited to the Clymer Meadow Preserve near Celeste, one of the last remaining unspoiled examples of the Blackland Prairie, for the annual wildflower tour, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. today. The organization is also scheduled to dedicate a 56-acre remnant of the Prairie, being donated by Robert and Eugene Shiels and family, among the descendants of Jim Clymer, who helped settle the area in the 1850s.

Those wanting to attend the event can reach the Clymer Meadow Preserve by taking Farm-to-Market 1562 east off of either State Highway 78 north off of U.S. Highway 380 or taking FM 1562 west off of U.S. Highway 69 from Greenville, then turn north onto Hunt County Road 1140.

The gate to the preserve will be flagged and personnel from the Nature Conservancy will be on hand to guide visitors.

Those wanting more information can call Jim Eidson with the Nature Conservancy by calling 903-568-4139.
