Work approved to create space for new County Court-at-Law

A plan has been approved to convert the current Hunt County Commissioners Courtroom into a space for the future County Court-at-Law No. 2, a move which will also mean the shifting of some other offices around the Hunt County Courthouse.

County Judge John Horn said the proposal was approved by the Commissioners Court when it met Monday morning. The details will be presented today to representatives with the American Red Cross branch in Greenville, as it will be one of the Courthouse offices which will have to find a new home.

“They’ve been notified that the change is imminent at this point,” Horn said. “As soon as they are set up, we will move the Human Resource and Purchasing offices to where they are.”

Before the County Court-at-Law No. 2 can meet to begin hearing cases, space must be created to house the court. The current Hunt County Commissioners Courtroom on the second floor of the courthouse will be expanded, using courthouse maintenance personnel to do all of the work with the exception of the pews and carpet.

The project will involve the move of the Hunt County Auditor’s Office on the second floor to the first floor space being vacated by Human Resources and Purchasing. A future location for the Red Cross Office has not been announced.
