One man wounded in drive-by shooting

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

GREENVILLE One man was wounded Monday night, after someone opened fire on a residence in the 3000 block of Speedway Street.

“It came from the street,” said Greenville Police Sgt. Perry Sandlin, who said it wasn’t immediately clear whether the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle. Sandlin said witnesses claimed to have heard six or seven shots fired at the house at around 8:45 p.m. Monday.

“That sounds about right, based on what we are finding in the street,” Sandlin said.

Orange traffic cones marked locations along the block, near the intersection of McKinney, were spent rifle-caliber casings were found.

Several family members were inside the home at the time of the shooting. One man received a gunshot wound to the bottom of his left foot, which appeared to have exited on a big toe. The individual was transported by ambulance to Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. His condition was not immediately available.

Officers remained on the scene, conducting the initial investigation at press time.

Anyone who may have information about the shooting can contact the Greenville Police Department at 903-457-2900, Hunt County Crime Stoppers at 903-457-2929 or contact the on-line tip site at www.tipsubmit.com. Those providing information to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous.
