The Hunt County Commissioners Court will meet today at 10 a.m. to discuss the location of the county’s newest county court-at-law.
This will be the third time the same issue has been on the Commissioners Court agenda.
Where to put the newest County Court-at-Law in an increasing space-cramped Courthouse has raised a lot of discussion among county officials.
The current proposal would place the new court in the current Commissioners Courtroom and cost the county about $15,885 to renovate the space. If approved, the new court, which is slated to hear misdemeanor cases to help ease the caseload in the current county court-at-law, would share its space with the Commissioners Courtroom. The County Auditor’s Office would move down to the Human Resources/Purchasing Office. That office would move to the current Red Cross office space in the Courthouse and the Red Cross office would either relocate to a current employee breakroom or out of the Courthouse altogether.
Most county officials voiced support for the proposal during the last Commissioners Court meeting, but Pct. 4 County Commissioner Jim Latham had asked for and was granted additional time to possibly come up with an alternative solution.
