County United Way director leaving post

By BRAD KELLAR

GREENVILLE Lana Calvery, executive director and chief executive officer of the United Way of Hunt County, has announced she is leaving the post later this month.

“We are starting a new journey, and we are very excited about the opportunities that are ahead,” Calvery said.

Calvery began working with the local United Way more than eight years ago and assumed the executive director’s post in October 2002. Her last day is scheduled May 21.

Calvery is getting married. She and her family are moving to Fayetteville, Ark.

Calvery has mixed emotions about the big change.

“This is where I was born and raised,” Calvery said. “This is my home, so that makes it bittersweet.”

A reception is scheduled in Calvery’s honor at the United Way office, 2607 Lee Street in downtown Greenville, between 4 and 6 p.m. May 21.

Calvery said the organization’s board formed a search committee which has been conducting interviews for the past week or so in an effort to find the next executive director.

“They have a number of resumes, both from within our community and from other states,” Calvery said, hoping the next leader of the United Way of Hunt County can be found soon. “So we can make a smooth transition.”
