Severe weather bypasses county

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

Severe weather which developed over North Central Texas Wednesday afternoon narrowly missed crossing into Hunt County, although some nearby counties weren’t so lucky.

Northern Collin County was placed under a tornado warning for a time Wednesday, while Fannin County was under severe thunderstorm warnings during the early evening, with both locations reporting the fall of large hail.

All of North Central Texas was placed under a tornado watch Wednesday afternoon, as a powerful and swift-moving dry line crossed the region from west to east. The disturbance did generate several powerful thunderstorms, but they all shifted to the north as the approached.

A developing tornado was spotted over north Collin County shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday, and the same group of storms passes over Grayson and Fannin counties a few minutes later, generating reports of 1.25 inch hail and winds gusting to 60 miles per hour.

In Greenville, winds were clocked at close to 30 miles per hour out of the south during the afternoon at Majors Field Municipal Airport, which also received five-hundredths of an inch of rain Wednesday.
