Storms expected today, Wednesday

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

The month of May is getting off to a wet start across North Texas, with a few scattered showers passing through Monday.

A few more storms are possible today, with a much better chance of thunderstorms in the forecast Wednesday.

About two-tenths of an inch of rain had been recorded as of nightfall Monday at Majors Field Municipal Airport in Greenville, with some locations seeing a little bit more precipitation, although no severe weather was reported anywhere in the area.

Scattered thunderstorms were said to be possible today, but again no severe weather is being forecast.

On the other hand, a dry line and an upper level disturbance were expected to cross the region Wednesday, greatly increasing the chances of severe thunderstorms, with large hail and damaging winds the main threats.

The month of May was extremely damp last year, with more than 11.5 inches recorded, finally breaking a drought and going down in the records books of the wettest month of May for Hunt County in 25 years and the fifth wettest May in history.
