By BRAD KELLAR

GREENVILLE The City Council is preparing Tuesday to cancel three of the four Council elections scheduled on May 10, and declare the candidates in each race as the winners.

The Council intends to cancel the regular election for Place 3, along with the special elections in Places 5 and 6 during Tuesday’s regular agenda, starting at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. A work session is also scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Doug Roszhart was the only candidate to have filed seeking the full term in the Place 3 seat, Bryan Herrin was the only candidate to have filed for the unexpired term in Place 5, while former Council member Betty Franklin was the only candidate to have filed for the unexpired term in Place 6.

As such, the Council is able Tuesday to cancel the elections for Places 3, 5 and 6 and declare Rozhart, Herrin and Franklin the winners by acclamation. The three will be sworn-in to office and take their seats on the Council May 13.

There will be an election on May 10 to determine who gets to be the next representative in Council Place 4, which was the only seat to draw a contested race. Incumbent Place 4 Council member Victoria Rogers will face former Council member Hattie Tennison.

The last day to register to vote for the election is April 10. Early voting will take place between April 28 and May 6 at the Hunt County Voter Administration Office, 2217 Washington Street in downtown Greenville.

On election day, voting for Place 4 will take place at the Reecy Davis Recreation Center, 4320 Lee Street.
