Town hall meeting to discuss south Hunt County

What to expect in the future will the topic of a massive town hall meeting Thursday evening at Ford High School in Quinlan.

The town hall meeting, which will future leaders from Quinlan, west and east Tawakoni, Hawk Cove, Lone Oak, the Sabine River Authority and the Texas Department of Transportation, will be presented by the Lake Tawakoni Regional Chamber of Commerce and emceed by County Judge John Horn.

“They’re going to tell us basically what the cities are doing now to prepare for the growth that’s coming this direction,” said organizer Tiffony Hopper, Quinlan Independent School District director of community relations.

She said representatives from each entity will be given five minutes to speak, then will have five minutes to answer moderated questions and another five minutes to answer audience questions.

“There will be a table set up where (audience members) can write their questions down,” Hopper said of the audience participation part.

The whole event will probably last about two hours.

“Each (city has) different things they are focusing on,” she explained.

Some topics Hopper predicts will be discussed include the path of the five-lane road being built near Quinlan, the future of each town’s police departments, new business growth including a new convenience store in Hawk Cove and land incorporation by several cities.

“I think with the questions and answers people will be able to get an understanding (of what is to come),” she said.

The event is free to the public and is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Ford High School is located at 10064 Business Highway 34 South.
