Motorcycle company to host fund-raiser

LONE OAK — They don’t call themselves a motorcycle club, but a motorcycle company. And they’re all about helping people in the community.

The North East Marines Motorcycle Company is hosting a Burger Brunch fundraiser from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Civic Center. Tickets are $6 and includes hamburgers, fries, drinks and dessert. Donations will also be accepted.

The motorcycle company consists of a group of retired and active Marines or family members of Marines. A non-profit organization, the group has held numerous fundraisers to help families in need, fallen soldier’s families, cancer patients. And at Christmas, they helped to provide a Christmas for a Greenville family.

“We try to help those in need,” said treasurer Malcolm Rogers. “We can’t always help everyone, but we try. Whatever we raise, we try to give out. We try to help the community with everything we take in.”

For the past three years, the group has been holding summer fun-runs as well as hosting Steak Nights every few months.

“Steak Nights have been a big success, but we thought we’d change it up this time,” Rogers said. “We’re trying something different this time, and by having the event on Sunday, it will give people a chance to go out to eat after church without having to drive too far.”

Rogers said that they appreciate all the support they can get from the community.

“We’re trying to get our name known and that we’re trying to help people when we can,” he said.
