Crowded field files for District 4 US Representative seat

By BRAD KELLAR
Herald-Banner Staff

GREENVILLE Should incumbent U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall of Rockwall win re-election to Congress, he will have to get through a crowded field of opponents in the March 4 Republican primary to do it.

Two candidates have also filed seeking the Democratic Party nomination for House of Representatives District 4 with the winner facing the victor of the GOP contest in November.

And a Libertarian candidate has filed, seeking the House District 4 seat in the November general election.

Meanwhile, State Rep. Dan Flynn drew no opponent in the Republican primary and no Democrats filed for the position before Wednesday’s filing deadline. Flynn will also have a Libertarian Party opponent in November.

A total of five Republicans are running for House District 4, which includes all of Hunt and Rockwall counties and a large stretch of northeast Texas. Hall is facing four opponents in the GOP primary; Celina residents Kevin George and Gene Christensen, former three-term Frisco Mayor Kathy Seei and Joshua Kowert of Sherman.

On the Democratic side, Glenn Melancon of Sherman — who ran in for the office in 2006 — is again seeking the Democratic Party nomination for House District 4 and is facing VaLinda Hathcox of Sulphur Springs in the primary.

Fred Annett of Paris has filed as the Libertarian candidate in the race for House District 4.

Flynn will claim the Republican Party nomination, as he faces no opponent in the GOP primary.

However, Michael A. French of Wills Point has filed as the Libertarian Party candidate for Texas House of Representatives District 2, which includes Hunt, Rains and Van Zandt counties.
