Time to end hospital tax

Herald-Banner Staff

GREENVILLE — To the editor:

Here we go again! All of a sudden everyone wants some tax money for their pet projects. It is apparent that these taxing entities are following the folks in Washington with their tax-and-spend mentality. I guess no one thinks a small city could go the way of Detroit. It’s easy to have big ideas when its other people’s money.

When I moved here some 20 years ago. I found it hard to find anyone who could tell me why there was a hospital tax. I got many answers from helping the poor to building a hospital. Well the hospital has been built and the poor are soon to have ObamaCare. I think its time to end the tax on the people since the hospital is a profit-making organization. It’s time the hospital district pays its own way. They no longer need taxing authority.

It appears to me that everyone wants somebody else’s money. There are a lot of folks in the area that are retired on not much income. The only thing they have is a few parcels of land that they spent a lifetime acquiring, and now it’s hard to keep up because taxing entities want them to pay property taxes on all their pet projects. Socialism works as long as other people’s money lasts.

It’s time to end this tax and let the taxpayer have a breather. Times are not nearly as good as some think.
