No time to forget

GREENVILLE — To the editor:

Another day, another letter from Jim Morris harping on L-3 employees supporting city council candidates.

He tells you that L-3 employees supported candidates with their own money. That is true. What he doesn’t tell you is that he tried to get those same “L-3 people” to back him last year during his unsuccessful run for mayor.  So now he scolds the new council members for doing what he tried to do.

Mr. Morris now takes issue with the city manager getting fired and salutes Place 1 for electing a “real city councilman.” I guess we’re supposed to forget that last year he ran ads saying that the same city manager needed to be fired and the entire council — including that “real city councilman” — needed to be recalled. You need a scorecard to keep up with the changes.

A while back, he also didn’t like that one of the L-3 vice presidents had been named to the Board of Development, but left out the fact he had applied and been passed over for the spot. The BOD is supposed to promote industrial growth in the city — God forbid there be one member of our county’s largest employer on it.

For me, the question is why wasn’t an L-3 person on there before?

I wish Mr. Morris would stop trying to make L-3 the bad guy in town. I wish he would take the time, like some of us have, to review the public documents about the L-3 case.

The previous adminstration/city council spent more than a million dollars in taxpayer money while telling us they had nothing to do with it and were just innocent bystanders.  The documents tell a different story. Based on those documents, it’s no wonder that L-3 wouldn’t work with them.

I am one who is glad L-3 has become more involved in the city, and with the talented people they employ, I hope they continue .
