To the editor:
I’m taking the time to let you know that my life has taken a new direction. This is in response to the letter from Jody McIntier on June 7, entitled “Save a Chihuahua.” The letter was a plea to the public to stop by Cause For Paws on June 8 to an event called ChiEsta.
When I read her letter, I immediately thought to myself, “I don’t need another dog.” However, I had been contemplating getting a second dog to keep our 15-pound terrier mix company. On June 8, I set out with my partner and terrier mix to ChiEsta telling myself over and over, “I don’t need another dog.”
Upon entering the event, out of 30 Chihuahuas inside a fence, we instantly noticed a female swimming among the others like a swan. Without a doubt she was performing for us. Needless to say, I have another dog.
She is 2 years old, only 5 pounds, and came knowing most of her commands. She only had one bad habit which undoubtedly was learned from her previous owner. She has almost conquered that habit. The important part is that I didn’t need another dog. She most definitely needed me.
On behalf of Hannah Banana, the dancing Chihuahua, thanks to Jodi McIntier, the Commerce Humane Association, and their tireless efforts to give talented dogs a chance to dance for people they really need.
Having a great summer,
and BJ Boo
