Herald-Banner Staff

GREENVILLE — To the editor:

I am writing this letter to ask for help from our community. The W. Walworth Harrison Public Library staff is in the process of digitizing the genealogy and local history document collection.

This is a vital project, as it will protect and preserve our rich history for future generations. As part of this undertaking, we are searching for information on the Booker T. Washington High School football team that won the state championship in 1941. Our documentation suggests that the team had a final record of 10 wins and two losses and defeated Athens in the championship game. Interestingly, records indicate the championship game may have been played on Dec. 25, 1941.

Unfortunately, due to incomplete newspaper records for that time we have not been able to find a source that documents the actual score for the championship game. If anyone has old newspaper clippings for the championship game, perhaps an old football program, or even pictures, we would love to see them and possibly digitize them for inclusion in the collection. Additionally, any personal recollections or information would be greatly appreciated! All items will be returned upon being digitized.
